Die Ruptur des vorderen Kreuzbandes (VKB) ist eine der häufigsten Verletzungen im Sport. Häufig reisst das VKB in Stop-and-Go-Sportarten wie Fussball, Skifahren oder Basketball. In 70% der Fälle kommt die Verletzung ohne gegnerisches Einwirken durch eine hohe Valgusbelastung des Kniegelenkes zustande [1]. Die Funktion des VKB ist die Stabilisierung des Kniegelenkes, indem es die anteriore Translation der Tibia gegenüber dem Femur bei statischen und dynamischen Bewegungen verhindert.

Suralis flap: solution for open midfoot fractures: ­initial management and intraoperative challenges

A 58- year old male patient presented, after a workplace accident with a 1 tonne of a metal plate on the right lower leg and foot, an open midfoot fracture and big soft tissue defect (Gustilo Anderson grade IIIA). Because of the soft tissue situation an external fixator was used for initial treatment. During hospitalization, progressing skin necrosing areas were presented, with the result that surgical depridements and a VAC (Vacuum Assisted Closure) system was necessary to treat the soft tissue damage.

The effect of a bimaxillary occlusion splint ­(Stressbite® dynamic splint system) on postural ­control and balance in patients with bruxism

Bruxism refers to the non-physiological clenching and grinding of the teeth, due to repetitive masticatory muscle activity. A distinction is made between sleep and awake bruxism [1]. Waking bruxism occurs with a prevalence of 22-31% and sleep bruxism with 9-15%. The prevalence peaks in the 2nd -3rd decade of life [2]. Differences between the sexes have not yet been clearly clarified [3-5].

Institutionalization of sports safety: lessons from Swiss youth sports promotion programme

This study investigated whether instructors applied safety recommendations from the Swiss national programme for sports promotion, called Youth+Sports (Y+S), in training courses/camps with young people. Moreover, we analysed factors that affected the awareness and application of those recommendations. The analysis was based on an online survey of Y+S instructors and Y+S experts (responsible for training instructors), as well as interviews with the education managers of sport associations.
